Pours a cola colored caramel with a two finger tan head.
Intense smells of game meat, a custardy caramel, and a little bit of smokiness.
On the palate we lose the gaminess and get into some of those 800 calorie coffee drinks you can get at your local coffee establishment. Sweet caramel, mocha, and crisp, bracing bite like you get on the back end of a Coke. The back end is a nice blend of nuttiness and woodiness.

Poured in my recently purchased Fox Hole Tavern pint glass. It's a deep gold color, almost orange. A nice white head.
I'm getting nice ripe tropical fruit on the nose along with sweetbreads, like sugar cookies and a touch of pine.
Fruit is subdued on the palate. A shock of piney hops on the front. next we have a great, rounded maltiness that transitions into some more piney, bitter finishing hops.
Very pleased with this effort from Anchor. Refreshing, crisp, but not crazy hoppy.

A customer asked me to compare this beer to Fuller's Pale today and I realized I haven't had a Sammy Smith for a couple years.

Pours a gold with a tint of orange. Small head goes away quickly and leaves a thin film of white bubbles.
Smells like heavy, sweet bread. Maybe like a bread pudding that has a touch of peach in it.
More tartness on the front end than I was expecting. The taste is exceptionally smooth with very laid back floral hops. More malty bread on the palate.
Light and drinkable, with medium carbonation

We've got Piraat in 4pks for $17.99 & 750s $13.99. One of the many Belgian beers we got in during the past week.

A hazy orange with a big, craggy, white, head.
This is one complex beer. On the nose I'm getting Runts banana flavor, lots of spicy notes, some buttery baked goods and a little bit of earthy stink. There's also some alcohol coming through.
This is one big beer. Bananas and alcohol, with some buttery caramel. Yeah, that's right.
A supremely balanced beer. As I'm getting to the bottom of the glass the alcohol is getting a bit hot, but nothing major.
I loved this beer when I tried it a few years ago and it's still really really good.

Sierra Nevada's Estate Brewers Harvest Ale is made with barley and hops that are grown on their Chico, CA complex. Pours copper red with a super thick white head that turns craggy and looks like it might stick around for a few days. On the nose I get the pungent smell of wet leaves mixed with the crispness of orange peel, really really nice. The taste is even more unique than the nose. This beer is woodsy, crisp and has some leather. The hops kick in big time on the finish and the bitterness lasts. At 6.7 ABV this beer is a big guy, but it's balanced very well. All in all one of the better beers I've tried this year.

This is the 2009 Goose Island Christmas Ale. It's a beautiful beer featuring a rusty orange/red body and a thick tan head. Smells like rice crispy treats with a touch of red spiced fruit. The alcohol (5.7%) is a bit hot on the back end, overshadowing the flavors on the front. Malt is central in this beer, accompanied by just a touch of cinnamon and orange peel. My palate is kind of let down after smelling this nice-looking winter quaff. Goose Xmas '09 is fun to pour, fun to smell and a pretty good drink. The alcohol comes off a little hot for me, but otherwise no complaints. Definitely worth a try.
