You never feel bad dropping $20 on Seghesio because you can be confident you are going to get a rock solid Zin of consistent quality. The '09 version is no exception.
It's a smidge light but it's big on the nose. Spicy pepper notes mesh with mulberry and grape jelly aromas, kind of like a purple flavored sno-cone. There's also some old gnarly wood going on.
Upfront fruitiness gives way to enough oak to make me a little nervous. The tannins are mild and restrained. Not quite as vibrant as I'd like and that has a lot to do with how young this wine is. Still really nice.
